美術館びじゅつかんの短みじかい時間じかん

火曜日かようびの午後ごご、私わたしは一人ひとりで古ふるい美術館びじゅつかんへ行いきました。
電車でんしゃが遅おそかったですから、中なかに入はいった時とき、もう四時半よじはんでした。
美術館びじゅつかんの人ひとは「五時ごじまでですから、時間じかんは三十分さんじゅっぷんだけですよ」と言いいました。
私わたしはゆっくり見みたかったですから、少すこし残念ざんねんでした。
でも、急いそいで一番いちばん好すきな絵えを見みました。
短みじかい時間じかんでしたが、その絵えはとても綺麗きれいでした。

Grammar / Notes

• もう / まだ もう with a past verb means ‘already’. まだ with a negative verb means ‘not yet’, and with a positive verb ‘still’. 電車でんしゃが遅おそかったですから、中なかに入はいった時とき、もう四時半よじはんでした。(“Because the train was slow, when I entered inside, it was already 4:30.”)
• 〜だけ and counters 〜だけ after a noun or a counter means ‘only’. A counter such as 〜つ, 〜人にん or 〜枚まい gives a number of things and usually stands right before the verb. 美術館びじゅつかんの人ひとは「五時ごじまでですから、時間じかんは三十分さんじゅっぷんだけですよ」と言いいました。(“The museum staff said, ‘Since it is open until 5 o’clock, you only have 30 minutes.’”)

A Short Time at the Art Museum

On Tuesday afternoon, I went to an old art museum alone.
Because the train was slow, when I entered inside, it was already 4:30.
The museum staff said, “Since it is open until 5 o’clock, you only have 30 minutes.”
I wanted to take my time looking, so I was a little disappointed.
But, I hurried and looked at my favorite painting.
It was a short time, but that painting was very beautiful.
